Omarchy Keyboard Shortcuts for Windows and Workspaces

Learn Omarchy shortcuts by task: the Super key, window control, workspaces, launching, and troubleshooting a keyboard shortcut that fails.

Omarchy's speed comes from actions organized around Super. Do not memorize an old list from the web. Open hotkey help on the installed system, confirm the version and layout, then practice by task.

Actions to learn first

The common default model is below; the current system display remains authoritative:

Window management

Tiled windows rearrange as new windows appear. Learn four categories: focus an adjacent window, move the current window, toggle floating or tiling, and fullscreen or close. Releases may use arrows, Vim directions, or menu actions, so search built-in help for window, focus, and move.

Practice with two disposable windows. Change focus, move one, then close a test window. Do not learn a close binding on an editor with unsaved work or a terminal running an important job.

A workspace routine

Treat workspaces as stable desks, not temporary piles. Give browser, editor, terminal, and communication their own numbers. Use the corresponding action with Shift to send a window elsewhere, then switch there to verify.

When a shortcut does not work

Troubleshoot in order:

  1. confirm the physical Super key appears in a keyboard tester;
  2. inspect the input method and layout, especially with Apple or multilingual keyboards;
  3. search current hotkey help instead of trusting an older guide;
  4. close an app or remote desktop that may intercept global bindings;
  5. inspect custom configuration for an override;
  6. record one minimal reproduction instead of resetting everything.

If a window is frozen, first distinguish one application from the Hyprland session or all input, then follow the troubleshooting guide.

Practice order

On day one, learn launcher, terminal, and workspaces. Add focus and movement on day two, screenshots on day three. Customize only after daily tasks work without a cheat sheet; configuration complexity is not the same as efficiency.
