Omarchy 4 Hidden Tips for the Bar, Launcher, Workspaces, and Focus

Learn easy-to-miss Omarchy 4 Quattro interactions for the bar, app launcher, clipboard, notification history, reminders, workspace layouts, and saved window widths.

AMZDIR Editorial · Published · Updated

Omarchy's fastest workflows are not all obvious from a hotkey table. Many features live behind right-click, middle-click, or scroll actions on the bar, while others become useful only when combined. This page follows the Omarchy 4 / Quattro manual and the v4.0.2 release. Tutorials built around Walker, Waybar, Mako, or Hyprlock describe the older desktop stack and should not be copied directly into Quattro.

Confirm the version boundary first

Quattro moved the launcher, menu, bar, notifications, OSDs, lock screen, and authorization prompt into one Quickshell process. If your machine still has Walker or Waybar configuration, update through the official path and check bindings with Super + K before mixing configuration from two generations.

October 2026 update

The latest stable release is v4.0.4. See 12 current tips for the kernel, Hermes/OpenClaw, Taildrop, plugin updates, bar scripting, and recovery checks. This page still covers Quattro workflows; verify local help first.

1. Use the menu as a command palette

Super + Space searches both applications and nested Omarchy commands. Use Super + Alt + Space when you want an apps-only launcher with less noise.

A useful learning loop is:

  1. Open Super + Space and search for an action you cannot locate.
  2. Find the direct binding in Super + K for actions you repeat.
  3. Switch to Super + Alt + Space when the target is definitely an app.
  4. Keep custom bindings in ~/.config/hypr/bindings.lua and preserve recovery access to the menu, terminal, and lock screen.

Prefixes such as . for file search or = for calculations in old Walker guides belong to the previous stack. Use the menu, native calculator, and clipboard facilities shown by your current Quattro installation.

2. The bar has more than left-click actions

Several useful bar actions hide behind another mouse button or the scroll wheel:

WidgetEasy-to-miss actionUseful for
MenuRight-click opens a terminalOpening a terminal when the pointer is already on the bar
ClockRight-click cycles format; middle-click chooses timezone12/24-hour display and cross-timezone work
WeatherRight-click shows a full notice; middle-click refreshesChecking or refreshing cached conditions
AudioRight-click mutes; scroll changes volume; middle-click opens panelControlling sound without leaving the current window
MicrophoneClick mutes; scroll changes input volumePre-flight checks for meetings and recordings
DisplayScroll changes brightnessFocused external displays when DDC/CI is supported
PowerRight-click toggles battery percentageSwitching between a clean and precise display
MediaMiddle-click advances; scroll moves prev/nextControlling playback without opening the player
Tray chevronRight-click manages pinned and hidden iconsKeeping 1Password or Dropbox visible

Super + Ctrl + 1 through 9 opens right-side panels by their current position. The numbering is dynamic, so moving or adding a widget changes what each number opens.

Drag an empty bar area toward any screen edge to dock it there. Double-click the empty area to toggle transparency. Super + Shift + Space hides or restores the bar without stopping panels or hotkeys.

3. Bridge terminal and desktop with one clipboard

ActionHotkey
Copy / cut / pasteSuper + C / Super + X / Super + V
Open text and image historySuper + Ctrl + V
Open emoji pickerSuper + Ctrl + E

Selecting a history item puts it back on the current clipboard for Super + V. Agent harnesses commonly reserve Ctrl + V for images and use Super + V for text.

QR capture marks its result as sensitive so normal history skips it. Passwords, tokens, and ordinary copied private text are not guaranteed to receive the same treatment. Review clipboard history before recording, sharing a screen, or handing over the device.

4. Silenced notifications remain reviewable

  • Super + Ctrl + ,: toggle do not disturb;
  • Super + Shift + Alt + ,: open notification history;
  • Super + Alt + ,: invoke the most recent notification;
  • Super + , / Super + Shift + ,: dismiss the latest / all notifications.

Do not disturb sends ordinary notifications into history without showing popups, which is useful for presentations or focused work. Quattro also lets you right-click a popup to dismiss it. History can expose chat text, filenames, and one-time codes, so inspect that area before public screen sharing.

5. Combine reminders with temporary focus modes

Create a countdown reminder with Super + Ctrl + R, list reminders with Super + Ctrl + Alt + R, and clear them with Super + Ctrl + Shift + R. The terminal entry point is:

omarchy reminder 7 'Tea ready'

Run omarchy reminder --help before scripting because accepted parameters may grow across releases.

Useful temporary modes include:

ModeHotkeyCLI
Warm night lightSuper + Ctrl + Nomarchy toggle nightlight
Silence notificationsSuper + Ctrl + ,omarchy toggle notification silencing
Stay awake without idle lockingSuper + Ctrl + Iomarchy toggle idle
Show or hide the barSuper + Shift + Spaceomarchy toggle bar

Before a long presentation, enable stay-awake and do-not-disturb, then set an end reminder. Restore each mode from the indicators next to the clock. Stay-awake affects idle locking; it is not the same as disabling suspend or every power policy.

6. Give each workspace a suitable layout

Super + L toggles the current workspace between dwindle and scrolling, and the choice persists per workspace. Workspace 1 can stay in dwindle for browsing while workspace 2 uses scrolling for a wide code layout.

Three combinations are especially useful:

  • Super + Alt + Home saves the current app width for this workspace; Super + Home restores it.
  • Super + Grave or Super + S summons the scratchpad for a temporary terminal or agent.
  • Super + O makes a video or monitor window floating and sticky across workspaces.

If a layout becomes confusing, use Super + T to switch the focused window between tiled and floating before editing Hyprland configuration.

7. Reach visual and content tools directly

  • Super + Ctrl + Shift + Space: pick a theme from live previews;
  • Super + Ctrl + Space: pick a background for the active theme;
  • Super + Ctrl + D: open Display, including unified Shell, GTK, and terminal text sizing;
  • Alt + Shift + L: copy the current URL in Chromium-family browsers or web apps;
  • Alt + Shift + D: ask yt-dlp to download the current page's video into ~/Videos;
  • Super + Ctrl + C: open the Capture menu.

A download command does not grant redistribution rights. Follow the site's terms, copyright, and local law. The native messaging extensions cover Chromium-family browsers, not Firefox or Zen.

8. Verify every tip against your installation

Omarchy changes quickly. When a tutorial looks old, start with:

omarchy
omarchy commands --all
omarchy <group> --help

Then compare the result with Super + K. Posts and videos provide leads; your current menu, CLI help, official manual, and installed configuration define runtime truth.

Continue with Shell and development productivity, the complete hotkey guide, and web apps and PDF workflows.
